Aztec Princess is your typical South-American civilization themed game, though there are some things to set it apart, such as the focus on the Aztecs which haven’t gotten that much attention from developers, or the mix of cool features that will improve your experience.
Otherwise, if you look at what’s available in the game, 5 reels and 25 paylines, you have an often used layout, though this part isn’t as important. Even better, you’re going to find scatter symbols, free spins, regular or stacked wilds, some multipliers, but also a chance to walk away with a payout of up to $625,000 from a single round.
In a game with 25 fixed lines, the wagers will vary only through the modification of the line bet. This part has two components, the coins and their value. You change the coins from 1 to 10, so the total bet uses 25 to 250 coins total. The denomination will only go up to $0.50, so while the starting point of the betting range is at $0.25, its maximum point is at $125.
Golden Princess Jackpot
Golden Princess mentions that the highest reward that it can offer is $625,000, which is a pretty good jackpot to be walking away with, if you’re asking me. Individual wins of $25,000 are possible, and that’s before wilds get involved and double or triple their values. It doesn’t take all that many winning combinations to reach the maximum potential of the game, which is nice.
As for the Return to Player, it’s been set to 95% for this game. It’s not a great number, but it’s not a huge negative point either.
While it’s not a very long or unique list of features, I found that Golden Princess offers more than enough to satisfy most players.
One of the symbols that you will notice in the game is the one with the image of the game logo, plus an Aztec pyramid on top of it. This will be your wild feature, the symbol that substitutes for all symbols, the exception being the scatter. While in the base game, this symbol is regular-sized, available on all reels and when it contributes to a win it uses a 2x or 3x multiplier on the prize.
A Treasure Chest will be your scatter symbol, and it’s not a bad image to be using for the trigger of the free spins, since you don’t really know what you’re going to find inside. Reaching this point in the game will require that you have 3, 4 or 5 Treasure Chests on the five reels, not necessarily in fixed positions. The game gives you 10, 20 or 30 free spins in exchange.
The big advantage that I see in the free spins is that the wild symbols are now stacked, and so getting combinations formed is easier, the odds of having a substitute on a line increasing.
There is also the fact that each Treasure Chest scatter that appears during the free spins will deliver a mystery pay that can reach 10x total bet. That adds up as well, and it could mean a big reward over the course of up to 30 free spins.
If there was one downside to mention for this feature, is that you can’t retrigger it, even if you have 3+ scatters appearing. The mystery pay is a nice alternative to the free spins retrigger though.
It’s the Aztecs that get the attention, along with their princess which has the stage and the main role. You see things like pyramids and treasure chests for the feature triggers, while the reels host the Aztec Princess, an Aztec Warrior, leopards, black panthers and a bunch of Aztec-style playing cards. The well-made cartoon-style graphics and the beautiful woman that pays the jackpot do help with the look of the slot. Don’t expect ultra high-end graphics here though, it’s just above the average, same as a lot of other Microgaming releases.
Golden Princess has big potential payouts, several solid features and a good design, which should be good enough to be worth trying out, at the very least.
