Book of Ra by Novomatic – Slot Machine Review
Novomatic is an older company, one that has got quite a reputation in the land-based casino industry with its slot machines, and which has later made the move to the online market as well. They have turned some of their popular land based machines into online versions, and they have done a good a job with them. Book of Ra is one of those slots which have made the move to the online, one of the most popular such games in fact.
It’s not a very modern game, even though it’s fun to play, and it will offer up to 9 active lines on 5 reels. The promise is that the game can pay up to $50,000 for the right combo, meaning up to 5,000x. It’s got both wilds and scatters together, plus the usual free spins as features that everyone loves to trigger and take advantage of.
Though it might not seem like it, both the lines and the total bet can be changed by the player. Clicking on the Lines option opens a menu with 1 to 9 active lines that can be selected. The total bet does the same, only the options listed on it will vary from $0.45 to $90 (with all lines active). The line bet offered is $0.05 to $10.
Book of Ra Jackpot
The top prize of Book of Ra is 5,000x per winning combination, or as much as $50,000 cash. Given the presence of 9 lines, the potential of the slot could reach an impressive $450,000. The potential of 5,000x the stake which can be achieved this way is quite high and it gives the player a good reason to try out the game.
The downside with a slot machine that’s been built for the land-based market is that it’s not going to pay very well, especially compared with an online slot. The RTP of Book of Ra is at a measly 92.13%, a figure so low that it’s not going to make the game playable at all for an online player.
As you’re getting an older game here, don’t go in expecting any impressive features. It’s got good potential, and it can pay an impressive amount, but that’s it.
Wild/Scatter Symbols & Free Spins
The game will use the Book of Ra for the role of both the wild and the scatter. Depending on how you get the symbol, it can fulfill both roles and it can also trigger features and pay a fair amount. The symbol is marked with the Scatter logo, so we know that the features and payouts it gives you will come as a result of its presence in several random locations.
The payouts will reach 200x the bet, or as much as $18,000, depending on how many of the 3 to 5 required scattered Books of God you have.
It’s also mentioned that the game uses this symbol as a wild, which means that it can be included in newly formed combinations, provided that it appears on that same line and in a required position.
Once you access the 10 free spins, via 3+ scatters, you will find that you have one special expanding symbol selected at the start. This special symbol can expand and cover all the reel’s positions. It’s going to make it easier for a screen filled with winning symbols to form up.
Once again, this is no modern slot machine, and the graphics reflect that. You get a relatively simple design which is inspired by Ancient Egypt, with most of the positions usually being occupied by Royals that don’t have much to show you. The higher symbols show the Egyptian deities, the Book of Gods and the main character, an explorer which resembles Indiana Jones.
Though it’s a game with a huge potential and very popular at land-based casinos, I haven’t found it an interesting choice for the online player, it’s got too low of an RTP for that.
