OpenBet is one of the pioneers of the online gambling industry, a company founded in 1996 and which has managed to become the biggest sports bet provider. Their software platform is available in a lot of different jurisdictions, being regulated for use there.

The company is present all over the world, with offices present in London (main HQ), along with North America, Singapore and Australia. Hundreds of partners have integrated their content into their sites. They have their share of online slot machines or casino games, alongside their sports betting platform. OpenBet is currently a company which is part of a larger group, called Scientific Games.

To give you an idea of how big they are, they mentioned in 2017 that more than 2 billion wagers were registered on their sportsbook that year. Luckily, they decided to offer their partners multiple solutions, so in addition to the sportsbook they have slot machines and casino games on offer. It’s no wonder that they’re the force behind many of the online market’s casinos. They’re also present in a lot of land-based shops in UK though.

History of OpenBet

OpenBet has been founded in 1996, as a UK company, based in London. The initial name of the company was Orbis Technology Ltd. Its founders were Clive Haworth, Charles Malir and James Caddy.

They released Betonline, their first app for sports betting, just in time for it to be used during the World Cup of 1998. One year later, they released the OpenBet Casino, and in 2000 they already had clients of the likes of Paddy Power, Surrey Sports or Ladbrokes, all using their platform.

Orbis Technology was acquired in 2000, by NDS. They acquired NT Media in 2005 and in 2008 Electracade joines as well.

The re-branding from Orbis Technology to OpenBet was done in 2010. They bought Alphameric Solutions that same year, changing its name to OpenBet Retail.

OpenBet changed hands once again in 2011, when NDS sold it in exchange for £208 million, to Vitruvian Partners. Fast forward a couple of years, to 2016, and we see them being sold once again, this time to NYX Gaming Group. NYX were bought themselves in 2017 by Scientific Games, and so that’s how OpenBet ended up as part of the SG Digital group in 2018.

Games

OpenBet has a mixed collection of games, as they’re trying to offer clients titles from all categories. You will discover the usual slot machines, but there are also table games, video poker and other types of online games. These titles are designed using HTML5, and so you will be able to access them either via desktop or a mobile device.

Their games are regularly tested by TST, an auditing company which is very well known, and they’re guaranteed to be producing random results.

They’ve been around for a long time, so even though they don’t focus on slot machines, they have more than 50 of them to offer. The quality is going to range from basic titles that look fairly dated, to modern releases which are actually interesting. Their latest game that I could find is a unique title called Bon Bon Bonanza, the type that uses Cluster Pays, has 9×9 reels and it also has a Return to Player of 96.98%.

A decent range of themes are used, some quite unique, others not so much. You can go from a Tarzan-style jungle game, to a slot covering the World War II naval battles, circus shows, horse racing, pirates and even classics.

For their major prizes, they have several progressive jackpots that they can deliver, but generally I’m not very impressed by the rewards they mention. The slots often pay 500x or more, but that’s considered an average reward. It means more in the ways to win system, with a slot like Cash Machine capable of paying 121,500 coins.

Popular Titles

For the more popular part of OpenBet’s portfolio, I should mention their recent releases, which are getting a bit more attention from players and casinos alike. Cash Machine, Sands of Fortune, Mega Pots Mega-X and Bon Bon Bonanza should definitely be checked out.

Highest RTP Games

One of their newest releases is also one of those which have the highest RTP from OpenBet’s collection. I would recommend you check out Bon Bon Bonanza (96.98%), Cash Machine (96.48%), Jungle Bucks (96%) and Monster Cash (96%), as the slots with the best RTP that I know from them.

It’s the type of developer where I always would want to check the RTP first, as the majority of their titles will actually be lower than 95%, sometimes even going under 94%.
